Former Ryder Cup star Mark James, who captained the 1999 European team, was making his first Yorkshire appearance in years today when he played in a charity event at Fixby Hall, Huddersfield, to celebrate Parnell Reilly's captaincy of the PGA.
Reilly, the head professional at Bradley Park and an honorary member at Fixby, has a link going back to the days when he was the professional at Otley and James was attached there.

JULIA SAMWAYS, the lady captain at Moor Allerton and her h
usband, Lyn, won the Griffin Trophy, the Leeds Union mixed foursomes championship, at Leeds (Cobble Hall).

They were out in the final group, posted 39 stableford points and were adjudged winners after a comparison of cards with two other couples.

Prize winners: 39pts –- Moor Allerton: A Samways (24) and J Samways (12). 39 – Headingley: M Roberts (2) and E Kilner (18). 39 – Scarcroft: R Clayton (11) and L Horsfield (19).

NIGEL WALSH (21), from Dewsbury, and John Stocker (14), from Leeds (Cobble Hall), have qualified for the UK final of the MatchplayUK.Com– Almeria Classic at Farthingstone, Northampton, on Monday.

PANNAL and Lindrick, among the hosts for the Open Championship regional qualifying next season, have also been confirmed as venues for 2010.
