Hurd fails in bid to join elite at Royal Birkdale

Yorkshire golfers suffered a nightmare day in their bid to join the world's elite in the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale next Thursday.
Simon Hurd, from Leeds, was in with a chance on 74 after his first round at West Lancs, the toughest of the three courses.
But then a 79 left Hurd short by six of making a play-off for the last two places.
