Ilkley's Gordon J Brand became the first golfer this year to win back-to-back events on the European Seniors Tour, following his triumph in the De Vere PGA Seniors at Slaley Hall, with another major, the Travis Perkins Senior Masters at Woburn.
In the space of those seven days, the in-form Ryder Cup man, pictured, has pocketed a cool £97,500.

And he aims to add a substantial amount to that in the Casa Serena Open which starts in Prague tomorrow and which has a whopping 600,000 euro prize
fund.

Another good performance could see him put pressure on both Ian Woosnam and Bernhard Langer – both are in the field in the Czech Republic – at the top of the Order of Merit.

Brand clinched the top £37,500 prize at Woburn in finishing two shots in front of Spain's Juan Quiros on nine- under-par 207. He had a good early season spell with four top 10 finishes in a row then went off the boil but lately has started holing putts again.

"There's no secret to it," Brand said.

"I just put a thicker grip on the putter to get what some Americans who use it call the two-thumb grip.

"It tends to take wrist action out of the stroke. And I've also been going to the gym every day and feel stronger for that."

He said Woburn was harder than Slaley Hall as the course was wet and the pine trees come in so close to the fairways. Leader Quiros found that out to his cost with a double bogey at the first in the final round.

Brand birdied to lead for the first time and never looked back. He made further birdies on the fourth, ninth, 11th and 18th and closed with a two- under 70 following 68, 69 for his fifth win in three years.
