Yorkshire's Gordon J Brand bids for his third win of the year in the European Seniors Tour Championship at Club de Campo del Mediterráneo in Spain, starting tomorrow.
but so does Ian Woosnam who is favourite to land an historic double.

Former Ryder Cup skipper Woosnam aims to become the first winner of the European Tour Order of Merit – he was No 1 in both 1987 and 1990 – to finish as the European Seniors Tour
top dog. The Welsh star has one hand on the John Jacobs Trophy after two victories plus three second place finishes and is currently 63,149 euros ahead of nearest rival Brand in the order of merit.

That means that not even the 64,433 euros first prize on offer at Club de Campo del Mediterráneo would be enough for Brand to prevent Woosnam succeeding Carl Mason as No.1 with last place claiming 2,019 euros.

Brand, from Ilkley, however, knows exactly what it takes to win the season finale having claimed the silverware at the 2006 Senior Tour Championship in Riffa Views, Bahrain.

l THE PGA has unveiled the 2009 dates for its popular golf rules courses run at its Belfry headquarters.

Aimed at all golf enthusiasts, the courses offer an insight into the regulations which are brought to life and covered in detail from practical sessions through to analysis of televised incidents.

The courses will be run by PGA tournament staff who have experience of officiating at the four majors, the Ryder Cup and at European Tour events and will cover all aspects of the rules.

In order to cater for all levels, there will be an Introduction to the Rules of Golf course as well as the Advanced Rules of Golf and Refereeing course which will include an optional assessment.

The dates are: February 28 – Introduction to the Rules of Golf; March 14 – Advanced Rules of Golf & Refereeing. The fee for one course is £125 and £225 for both.

Places are limited for the individual courses and allocation will be on a first come first served basis. For details call Michael Wood on 01675 470 333 at PGA Headquarters or email michael.wood@pga.org.uk
