YORKSHIRE'S Alex Belt, the North Region champion, is on the heels of leader Richard Bean after the first round of the Leeds Cup, Yorkshire's biggest event of the year, after the first day of professional golf's oldest trophy at Leeds Cobble Hall).
The Bridlington Links man, 22, shot four under 65 on the saturated course to close within a shot of Bean, from Aldersey Green, Cheshire, who needed only 27 putts on greens made playable after an army of ground staff and PGA officials spent half the
morning mopping up following overnight torrential rain.

Belt made five birdies with his only error a bogey at the 17th where he missed from 18 inches

A shot back from the top two in a group of six are Scott Barber, from Waterton Park, Wakefield, and Middlesbrough's Jon Lupton, while defending champion John Wells, the Yorkshire Open title holder from Cherry Burton, Beverley, posted 69.
