Michael Jackson

The Remix Suite (Universal Motown)

Featuring contributions from the likes of Paul Okenfold, Akon, the Neptunes and Stargate, The Remix Suite is a salute by various DJs and producers to the King of Pop, who died aged 50 on June 25.

Described as "a fun, fresh and funky testament to the infinite appeal to the early works of Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5", it was put together by Universal Motown president Sylvia Rhone, who invited those concerned "to put their own unique spin on his work".

"From Michael's amazing vocals to the great melodies, grooves and arrangements – the material they had to work with is so incredibly rich," she added. "It's inspiration feeding inspiration and the results are fantastic."

As well as new takes on I Want You Back and Ben, there are several lesser-known works such as I Wanna Be Where You Are and Hum Along and Dance plus a superb Frankie Knuckles re-rub of Forever Came Today.

Warming carrot and coriander soup

Serves 4

Ingredients

2 tbsp butter

2 small leeks (sliced)

1 medium sized potato (chopped into small cubes)

800g carrots (roughly chopped)

chopped coriander leaves

1 bay leaf

2½ litres of vegetable stock

teaspoon of dried chilli flakes (optional)

soured cream or yoghurt to serve

Melt the butter in a large saucepan. Add the potato cubes and leeks, cook for about three minutes until starting to soften and brown, then add chilli flakes and stir for another minute.

Add the carrots, and bay leaf, cook for another two minutes.

Pour in stock, bring to boil, simmer for 30 minutes.

Blend the soup in batches, return to a clean pan, then season to taste.

Reheat when ready to serve and add a swirl of sour cream or yogurt and serve with crusty bread or baked potatoes.

Top tip: To make your soup a little warmer, just add a bit more chilli (but not too much!)
