BRITAIN'S Parliamentary beer champion presented an award to a Yorkshire pub chain for its efforts in boosting Britain's historic alcoholic tipple.
John Grogan, Labour MP for Selby, is chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Beer Group. He met the boss of the Tadcaster Pub Company, which owns 64 pubs, to present him with the Beautiful Beer Award – in recognition of the company's commitment to offering top quality beer to its customers.
The Beautiful Beer Awards have been established by the British Beer and Pubs Association, the trade association for pub operating companies and brewers, and are presented to individual pubs and companies.
Mr Grogan said: "Beer plays a vital role in the economy of this country, and especially in Tadcaster.
Dedication
"The Beautiful Beer initiative which encourages people to choose beer over other drinks more often can only benefit the brewing industry, and I'm delighted Tadcaster Pub Company has been selected for an award. It is a shining example of a company that shows real dedication to ensuring its customers have a wide range of top quality beers to choose from."
Tadcaster Pub Company managing director James Crawfurd-Porter received the award.
The company even has a resident cask ale specialist, Glenn Hymers, a former pub tenant himself, who advises newcomers on the selection and handling of traditional beers.
Mr Crawfurd-Porter said: "Beer is the life blood of our business, and we ensure that the range we offer our licensees satisfies the needs of all their customers.
"Ranging from national best-sellers to regional seasonal ales, we have something for all tastes. We must be the only pub company of this size that has a cask ale adviser on the staff – that's how passionate we are about ensuring all our pubs serve the best quality beer."
