WEST Yorkshire pub company Suburban Style Bar Co Ltd has set up a subsidiary to manage 10 freehold pubs it bought in March.
Beacon Pub Company Ltd will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Suburban and will be headed by Andy Longman, the managing director of Suburban, who founded the company in 2000.
While Mr Longman remains managing director of Suburban, a statemen
t from the business said it was his intention to spend the remainder of 2008 concentrating on building the Beacon Pubs brand.
The day-to-day running of Suburban will become the responsibility of operations manager, Mark Yates, who has been with the company since it was founded.
Split
The statement added that for operational purposes, Suburban had now been split into two divisions – "drinks led" and "drinks led with bistro food".
Beacon Pub Co was founded following the completion of a £3.6m funding package from Allied Irish Bank (GB).
Suburban Style Bar Co Ltd now operates 15 pubs, bars and bistros across West and South Yorkshire and Greater Manchester, with a further outlet set to open later this year in the Gateway development in Leeds city centre.
Mr Longman said: "The 10 new outlets will be keeping their existing identities, although we have begun a maintenance programme which will see considerable money invested in areas such as decorating, new furniture and the construction of smoking shelters.
"Overall, though, they will all benefit from our increased buying power and a vastly improved product range through our well established relationships with companies such as Scottish Courage, Black Sheep Brewery and Oddbins."
