Linpac Packaging snaps up Portuguese firm Ovarpack

WEST Yorkshire packaging manufacturer, Linpac Packaging has acquired a 100 per cent shareholding in Portuguese packaging distributor, Ovarpack Embalagens SA.
A spokesman for the Knottingley-based firm said the acquisition would strengthen Linpac's position in the Portuguese market.
Javier Fernandez, vice-president and general manager of Linpac Packaging's European bakery sector, says: "The acquisition will strengthen Linpac Packaging's position in the Portuguese market through Ovarpack's capable and experienced sales team."
Ralf K Wunderlich, managing director and president of Linpac Packaging, said: "Our investment is designed to support our customers and to achieve profitable growth for the business. We would expect to see further growth of Ovarpack in the medium term.
"Linpac sees this deal as a good opportunity for both parties. Our extensive product range and vast experience in the fruit and produce, protein, bakery and food service sectors fits well with Ovarpack's deep knowledge of the Portuguese market and strong customer relationships."
"Our experience as a global packaging provider with a solid manufacturing base, quality staff and customer focus will provide Ovarpack with the products and customer service to reinforce their status as market leader in Portugal".
Mike Arrowsmith, Linpac Group chief executive officer, added: "We are committed to supporting the ambitious growth strategy of Linpac Packaging. Now Ovarpack is part of the Linpac family, we will be looking to achieve further growth in the Portugese market."
Ovarpack sells and distributes packaging products to the food industry and retailers.
The product range includes trays, rigid containers and paper packs.
Linpac Packaging has sales of €940m, with 37 sites in 19 countries employing some 5,000 people.
