THREE local athletics clubs have been nominated for prestigious awards for their performances and results this season.
Leeds City AC, Ilkley Harriers and Wakefield District Harriers & AC have been named as finalists in various categories of the England Athletics – Yorkshire and Humberside Club Awards 2008.

Winners of the awards will be crowned at an awards ceremony at the Headingley Experience, Leeds, on Saturday.

Wakefield are in contention for track and field club of the year, while Leeds City and Ilkley have both been nominated for off track club of the year.

Ilkley have also been nominated for junior club of the year.

Individuals have also been nominated for awards. Wakefield's Mike Brennen and Sheila Scowcroft are up for club volunteer and service to athletics respectively, while Leeds City's Karl Evenden is nominated for newcomer to officiating; Moira Gallagher for services to officiating and Raymond Barrow and Wilf Paish for services to athletics.

Marie Dixon, regional manager at England Athletics – Yorkshire and Humberside, said: " The clubs nominated have demonstrated progress through improved results and are setting a precedent for other clubs."
