City of York runner and Leeds student Richard Buck will be competing in the World Indoor Track and Field Championships in Valencia this weekend.
Buck has repeatedly reduced his personal best indoors and the Leeds Metropolitan University student was an automatic selection for the 400 metres and runs in the relay as well.
He runs in the 400 metres heats tonight and his time of 46.34 ranks si
xth this year among the entrants.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Brownlee (Bradford) leads a strong West Yorkshire team in the senior race at the English Schools Cross Country Championships at Sefton Park, Liverpool, tomorrow.
Brownlee, whose brother Alistair won this title two years ago, missed last year's race due to illness.
James Wilkinson (Leeds) was third in this event last year and is again in the West Yorkshire team.
Ben Homer (Wakefield) leads the West Yorkshire challenge in the intermediate race whilst Elliott Todd (Leeds) should be well placed in the junior race.
Chloe Patchett (Kirklees) leads the senior girls team whilst at intermediate level Lauren Proctor (Leeds), despite being in the first year of the age group, should be well placed following some good performances.
Holly Shreeve (Bradford) should do well in the junior race.
