Rush-hour commuters have been warned to completely avoid the M62 as up to two hours of delays cause traffic chaos.

There are huge delays on the M62 this evening after a lorry jack-knifed - blocking three lanes.

The incident - on the M62 eastbound between J32 for Castleford and 32A - occurred shortly before 4pm.

Traffic officers are on the scene and recovery has been requested.

Highways England tweeted: "#M62 eastbound between J32 #Castleford #Xscape and J32A #A1M there has been an accident where an HGV has jack knifed and is blocking 3 lanes. #TrafficOfficers on scene and recovery requested"

Highways Yorkshire said the HGV has now been moved but a large spillage remains on the carriageway which will need to be cleaned by a specialist team.

Traffic in the area is delayed by at least 75 minutes, the AA confirmed.
