Halton Leeds crash: First pictures from the scene as man fighting for his life after Selby Road accident

A man is fighting for his life following a serious crash in Leeds.

It happened early this morning in Selby Road, Halton, close to the junction with York Road. Pictures taken this afternoon show police at the scene as they investigate the crash, which has left a 31-year-old man with life-threatening injuries.

The crash took place in Selby Road (A63) in Halton, near the major junction with York Road (A64). It happened at about 5.20am this morning (Tuesday October 24).

How many vehicles were involved?

Police believe the 31-year-old driver of a black BMW 320D was travelling along Selby Road towards York Road when his car crashed into railings. No other vehicles are reported to have been involved in the crash.

What have West Yorkshire Police said?

Police have confirmed that the driver was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

They want to speak to anyone who might have witnessed the crash or have dash cam footage. Those with information should contact the Roads Policing Unit by calling 101, or by using the live chat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website. The log reference is 189 of October 24.

Has the road reopened?

Road closures were put in place and people asked to avoid the area while police investigations continued at the scene, with buses making diversions Selby Road reopened by 2pm and bus services have resumed their usual routes.
